Elise C. Powers, Esq. has dedicated her legal career to the representation of clients in New York State domestic relations matters. Ms. Powers spent her first 13 years as a practicing attorney with a prestigious boutique matrimonial and family law firm in the greater Capital Region, and as a partner in the firm, gained unique insight in the representation of litigants at the Family Court, Supreme Court, and Appellate Division levels. She continues to practice exclusively in the fields of Matrimonial and Family Law as the founder and principal of The Powers Firm. Attorney Powers represents individuals in family law and matrimonial matters, as well as in the negotiation of separation, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Ms. Powers has also successfully represented numerous clients in the pursuit or defense of matrimonial and family law appeals and argued before the Appellate Division, Third Department.
Attorney Powers is a member of the New York State Bar Association and is actively involved in its Family Law Section, having served on the Section’s Executive Committee for over 10 years. Presently, Ms. Powers serves the Executive Committee as a Co-Chair of its Child Custody Committee. Ms. Powers is also a member of the Albany County Bar Association, the Schenectady County Bar Association, and the Capital District Women’s Bar Association. She is a Member of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation and has completed their 60-Hour Divorce Mediation Training program.
Attorney Powers has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the field of Family Law for 2025. She was awarded the honor of Young Lawyer of the Year by the Schenectady County Bar Association in 2020.
A native of the greater Philadelphia area, Attorney Powers graduated magna cum laude from Temple University. She went on to receive her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Albany Law School, where she was elected to the Justinian Society for excellence in legal scholarship and served as a Senior Editor on the Albany Law Review and the Student Bar Association.
